Inside LIV Golf at Steyn City: a new benchmark for sport, culture and hospitality

There are moments in sport that feel significant. And then there are moments that shift the standard entirely.

LIV Golf South Africa at Steyn City was exactly that.

In its debut on African soil, LIV did not just arrive — it made a statement. Drawing over 100,000 fans across four days, it became the largest professional golf event ever hosted in the country. But numbers alone do not define what unfolded. This was not just a tournament. It was a full-scale cultural moment where golf, music, lifestyle and energy collided in a way South Africa has not seen before.

At the centre of the sporting spectacle, Bryson DeChambeau delivered a dramatic playoff victory against Jon Rahm — a high-pressure finale that captured the intensity and global calibre of the event. Around it, teams battled, crowds surged, and the atmosphere carried a distinct South African “gees” that elevated every moment.

But beyond the fairways, what truly set LIV Golf apart was the experience.

For KDT Agency and its clients — Zintle Mpupha, Melodine Jacobs, Duan Jansen, Layla Arrison, Rumandi Potgieter & others — alongside their management teams, the hosting experience was nothing short of exceptional.

This was not traditional event hospitality. It was intentional, elevated, and deeply considered.

Spaces like Club 54 redefined what premium access should feel like. It was not just exclusivity — it was atmosphere. Seamless service, elevated cuisine, curated comfort, and uninterrupted views of world-class golf created an environment where networking, relaxation and immersion coexisted effortlessly.

The LIV Golf Lounge added another dimension — a fluid, beautifully executed space that allowed guests to move through the day with ease while remaining fully connected to the energy of the event.

From the Shotgun Start VIP viewing decks, the format of LIV Golf came to life in a way that felt immediate and immersive. You were not removed from the action. You were within it. Every swing, every shift in momentum, every surge of crowd energy felt close, tangible and real.

And then, as the sun set, the experience evolved.

Concert access seamlessly extended the day into night, blending sport with entertainment in a way that felt natural rather than staged. Performances from globally recognised South African artists like Black Coffee and GoldFish amplified the already electric atmosphere, turning the event into something far greater than a sporting fixture. It became a lifestyle experience — one that engaged every sense.

KDT Agency has had the privilege of attending and being hosted at some of the most respected tournaments in the game — across PGA and Sunshine Tour events, including The Nedbank Golf Challenge, Africa’s Major, honouring the legendary Gary Player.

These events carry legacy. They carry history. They carry prestige.

But LIV Golf at Steyn City delivered something entirely different.

It introduced a level of hospitality that feels aligned with the modern athlete, the modern brand and the modern audience. One that understands that experience is no longer secondary to sport — it is part of the product.

From the precision of the hosting to the flow of the event, from the cultural integration to the energy of the crowd, every detail worked in harmony to create something that felt both global and distinctly South African.

And perhaps that is what made it so powerful.

This was not just a successful debut. It was a reset.

A clear reminder that when sport, culture, hospitality and storytelling are executed at the highest level, the result is not just an event — it is a benchmark.

One that many others, both locally and globally, could learn from.
